Funda Eryiğit — Biography

Funda Eryiğit is a Turkish theatre, film and television actress, born on 6 November 1984 in Zwolle, the Netherlands. Of Circassian and Georgian descent with family roots in Bafra, Samsun, she settled with her family in Istanbul after her father, who had gone to the Netherlands as a worker, retired. Following Kadir Has Anatolian High School, she studied international relations at Istanbul University's Faculty of Political Sciences and then graduated from the theatre department of the same university's State Conservatory, gaining her first professional stage experience in 2002-2003 while still a student.

Her screen career began in 2008 with the series Canım Ailem, and she became widely known through series such as Uçurum, Eski Hikaye, Karadayı and Poyraz Karayel. Independent films including Limonata, Eksik and Tereddüt established her in auteur cinema, while her role as Ruhiye in the Netflix series Bir Başkadır (2020) drew broad acclaim. She went on to star in Son Yaz, the films Boğa Boğa (2023) and Kül (2024), and the 2025 series Ben Onun Annesiyim. On stage she won a Sadri Alışık award for Sessizlik at the Istanbul State Theatre, and was named most successful actress of the year at the 2019 Afife Theatre Awards for her portrayal of Rosalind Franklin in Fotoğraf 51. She is married to director Berkun Oya.
