Gülse Birsel — Biography

Gülse Birsel was born on 11 March 1971 in Istanbul. After graduating from the Economics Department of Boğaziçi University, she earned a master's degree in film at Columbia University in New York; back in Turkey she worked at ATV and served as editor-in-chief of magazines such as Esquire and Harper's Bazaar.

Her television journey began with g.a.g. She became widely famous with Avrupa Yakası, which she wrote and in which she played Aslı, and went on to portray Deniz in Yalan Dünya and Gizem in Jet Sosyete. As actress and screenwriter she took part in the films Hırsız Var!, 7 Kocalı Hürmüz, Aile Arasında and Yılbaşı Gecesi, and she has won Golden Butterfly awards.

Married to Murat Birsel, she also wrote the screenplay of 2 Aile Arasında, the sequel filmed nine years on; the film will be released on 4 December 2026.
