Mohammad Abdi — Biography
Mohammad Abdi is an Iranian actor from the older generation of Iranian cinema, whose screen career ran from the 1950s into the 1970s. He worked on both stage and screen, and by founding his own film studio and theatre he took part in production as well as performance. He was born in Tehran and is also credited as a film director.
His first encounter with the arts was through the theatre: in 1946 he appeared on stage in the play Molla Nasreddin. He entered cinema with a role in Nights of the Temple, directed by Nasser Koorechian. In the mid-1950s he played Sohrab's uncle in Mother's Kiss (1956). In 1958 he established the Zohreh Film Studio and two years later the Shahin Theatre, giving him a hand in production as well.
His busiest period ran from the late 1960s to the mid-1970s. In those years he took part in many Iranian productions, among them Sorrows and Joys (1967), Joseph and Zuleika and Ghoroube Botparastan (1968), Meliksah (1969), The Brother and Fireworks of the City (1971), City of Sunlight and Happy Birthday (1972), Negro (1973) and Antar-o-Mantar (1976). In Happy Birthday he played the character Seyd Asghar.
