Alive!

Alive! (Albanian: Gjallë) is a 2009 drama film written, directed, and produced by Artan Minarolli. A co-production of Albania, France, and Austria shot in Albanian, it was Albania's submission for Best International Feature Film at the 82nd Academy Awards, though it did not reach the final shortlist.

The film stars Nik Xhelilaj as Koli, a university student in Tirana who comes from the northern Albanian highlands and dreams of building a new life and integrating into the capital's society. His ambitions collapse when the burden of a crime committed long before his time falls on his shoulders, forcing him to confront the blood feud tradition that persists beneath the surface of a country where tradition and modernity constantly clash. The cast also includes Xhevdet Ferri, Bruno Shllaku, Besart Kallaku, Luli Bitri, Reshat Arbana, and Tinka Kurti.
