Incendies (İçimdeki Yangın)

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Incendies (2010) is a Canadian-French co-production adapted from Wajdi Mouawad's play of the same name. Villeneuve co-wrote the screenplay with Valérie Beaugrand-Champagne, grounding the story partly in the life of Souha Bechara. Filming took place mainly in Montreal, with war sequences shot in Jordan.

After the death of their mother Nawal, twins Jeanne and Simon receive two letters through a notary and travel to the Middle East to find the father they never knew and a brother whose existence they had never suspected. Though the country remains unnamed, the events draw heavily on the Lebanese Civil War, and the search uncovers the family's tragic secrets. Lubna Azabal stars alongside Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin, Maxim Gaudette and Rémy Girard. Premiering at Venice and Toronto, the film won eight Genie Awards and was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in 2011.
