On the Way to School (İki Dil Bir Bavul)

İki Dil Bir Bavul (On the Way to School) is a 2008 Turkish-Kurdish documentary directed and produced by Orhan Eskiköy and Özgür Doğan. It follows a young Turkish teacher, fresh out of university, who is assigned to a primary school in the village of Demirci in Şanlıurfa's Siverek district, and his school year with Kurdish pupils who do not speak Turkish. The communication gap between the teacher, who knows no Kurdish, and the children forms the film's central theme.

Shot between September 2007 and June 2008, the film was originally titled Okul Yolunda. It premiered worldwide at the 21st Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival and opened in Türkiye on 23 October 2009. Winner of "Best Film" and the "Grand Jury Special Award" at the Adana Altın Koza festival and "Best First Film" at the Antalya Altın Portakal festival, it drew favorable critical reactions.
