Alone (Issız Adam)
Issız Adam (Alone) is a 2008 Turkish romantic melodrama written and directed by Çağan Irmak, released in Turkish cinemas on 7 November 2008. Its title is a multi-layered wordplay that can mean 'abandoned man' as well as 'my lonely Ada', referencing the female lead's name. Shot over five weeks, the film drew strong interest from Turkish audiences, reaching 2.765 million viewers by its fifteenth week.
The story begins with a chance encounter in a bookshop between Ada, a lively young woman who sews children's costumes in her small Beyoğlu shop, and Alper, a well-off restaurant chef whose only passion is listening to old vinyl records. Through their love affair, the film explores how modern life isolates people. Starring Melis Birkan and Cemal Hünal, the film won the Best Film award at the 2009 Rhode Island Film Festival and was re-released in Turkey in June 2025.
