Goncagül Sunar — Biography

Goncagül Sunar is one of those Turkish television actors who make supporting characters stick in the memory: a stage-trained performer who works in film and series and also writes and sings songs. In 2026 she joined the cast of the series Teşkilat as Sultan.

Her start came in 1991 with Şahika Tekand's Studio Oyuncuları company. She first faced the camera in 1992 in Mahallenin Muhtarları, as a friend of the character Fadime. Her real breakthrough was Asmalı Konak in 2002, in which she played the manor's maid Hayriye Soylu and became widely known. She has said that Canan, the singer she played in Çağan Irmak's Çemberimde Gül Oya (2004-2005), holds a special place for her whatever she has played since. Roles followed in Leyla ile Mecnun, Umutsuz Ev Kadınları, Muhteşem Yüzyıl, Kaderimin Yazıldığı Gün, Rüya, Bir Litre Gözyaşı and Benim Tatlı Yalanım. In film she appeared in Issız Adam (2008) and Müslüm (2018), and more recently in independent features such as Veda Partisi (2024) and Ölü Mevsim (2025).

Alongside acting she works in music, composing Turkish-language songs, playing guitar and leaning toward folk-rock. She has released singles since 2008, and her album En Uzak Yakın (2019) came from that line of work. She won the Best Short Screenplay Award at the Flying Broom International Women's Film Festival.
