Goncagül Sunar — Biography

Born in Istanbul in 1970, actress and musician Goncagül Sunar entered the arts in 1991 by joining Şahika Tekand's Studio Oyuncuları company, stepping in front of a camera for the first time a year later in Mahallenin Muhtarları. Real fame arrived through her turn as the household servant Hayriye in the 2002 hit Asmalı Konak, and two years later she took on the singer Canan in Çağan Irmak's Çemberimde Gül Oya. Her big-screen work spans films like Issız Adam (2008) and Müslüm (2018), while on television she has featured in shows such as Leyla ile Mecnun and Muhteşem Yüzyıl; her prize haul includes Best Short Screenplay from the Flying Broom International Women's Film Festival. Sunar is also a working musician, playing guitar and composing her own Turkish lyrics — she has put out a folk-rock soundtrack record for Çemberimde Gül Oya (2005), the full-length album En Uzak Yakın (2019), and numerous singles besides. She is married to sound engineer Marsel Zalma and is the mother of one child. In 2026 she joined the cast of Teşkilat as Sultan.
