The Tram (Tramvay) (translated)

Tramvay (The Tram) is a 2006 Turkish drama film directed by Olgun Arun from a screenplay by İzzeddin Çalışlar, with Plato Film handling production. The cast includes Ayça Bingöl, Fırat Tanış, Halit Ergenç, and Umut Oğuz.

The story follows a young man who has been pushed to his breaking point by an unending cycle of violence. He seizes a tram carrying passengers who together mirror a cross-section of Turkish society, and the hostage situation steadily escalates beyond anyone's control. Within this confined, claustrophobic setting, the film examines how domestic violence, emotional neglect, and isolation seep into every layer of society — not only in Turkey but around the world — and shows just how far such events can ultimately go.

The film earned Emel Çölgeçen the Promising New Actress award in the National Feature Competition of the 18th Ankara International Film Festival.
