Fırat Tanış — Biography

Nuri Fırat Tanış was born on 5 May 1975 in Istanbul into a family of Meskhetian (Ahıska) descent. He first stepped on stage in 1991 through theatre activities at Fikirtepe Mehmet Bayazıd High School, where he picked up acting prizes in inter-school competitions. He studied at the Theatre Department of the Istanbul University State Conservatory from 1994, graduating in 1998, then performed with the Istanbul City Theatre until 2001 and contributed columns to the newspaper soL.

His screen career began with Yeditepe İstanbul, but his true breakthrough came as Koyu Bilal in the series Geniş Aile, a character he carried over into its cinema spin-offs. On television he went on to appear in Menekşe ile Halil, Ulan İstanbul, Yeşil Deniz, İstanbullu Gelin, Kulüp, Aziz, Zeytin Ağacı and Adım Farah. His film work includes Nuri Bilge Ceylan's Once Upon a Time in Anatolia as well as Sır Çocukları, Dilber'in Sekiz Günü, Vay Arkadaş, Karınca Kapanı, Somuncu Baba: Aşkın Sırrı and Hep Yek; his performance in Sır Çocukları earned him several acting awards, among them a Golden Orange.

Tanış began composing at fifteen, and his songs have been performed by Teoman, Emre Altuğ, Levent Yüksel and Gülay. In 2025-2026, allegations of violence and harassment against him led to the cancellation of some of his concerts, and in 2026 he was dropped from the cast of the series Delikanlı.
