The Club (Kulüp)

The Club (Kulüp) is a Turkish period drama series produced by O3 Medya and directed by Seren Yüce and Zeynep Günay. Written by Ayşin Akbulut, Rana Denizer and Necati Şahin, and inspired by Denizer's own family history, it was released on Netflix. The ten-episode first season arrived in two parts on 5 November 2021 and 6 January 2022, while the second season premiered on 15 September 2023. The series won the Golden Butterfly Award for Best Internet Series.

Filmed around İstiklal Avenue in Beyoğlu, the story follows Matilda, a Sephardic Jew in 1950s Istanbul, who takes a job at a nightclub to reconnect with her daughter Raşel, who grew up in an orphanage while Matilda was in prison. The production drew attention for portraying Türkiye's Jewish community beyond stereotypes and for featuring Ladino, an endangered language spoken by around fifty performers appearing in those scenes.
