Başak Parlak — Biography

Başak Parlak was born on 3 November 1989 in the Şarköy district of Tekirdağ, to a maternal family of ethnic Turks who had emigrated from Greece after the Ottoman collapse and a paternal family who had emigrated from Bulgaria. She studied International Relations at Maltepe University and began appearing on screen while still very young, in the early 2000s. After roles in series such as Doktorlar, Emret Komutanım, Acı Hayat and Papatyam, she had her real breakthrough in 2007 with the novel adaptation Fikrimin İnce Gülü, followed by a lead role in Serçe (2008).

She took the lead in the period drama Yamak Ahmet, and also appeared in Sırat, Sevdam Alabora and Bir Deniz Hikayesi. In 2013 she played Pelin in the film Şevkat Yerimdar and reprised the role in its 2016 sequel; that same year she played Seda in Kış Güneşi, which ended after 18 episodes due to low ratings. From 2017 to 2018 she starred as Esin Uçar in the television adaptation of Şevkat Yerimdar. Parlak has continued working steadily, most recently appearing in the film Mutluyuz Mu? and the series Gustav Maier'in Tuhaf Hikayesi.
