Can Gürzap — Biography

Can Gürzap was born on 26 May 1944 in Istanbul, the son of theatre artist Reşit Gürzap. After Kadıköy Anadolu High School he graduated from the Theatre Department of the Ankara State Conservatory and studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

He worked as an actor and director at the Ankara State Theatre, taught at the conservatory and prepared numerous radio plays for TRT. In 1971 he married Arsen Gürzap, and in 1978 he became the founding director of the Istanbul State Theatre.

He made his television debut in 1977 with the series Sırça Kümes and appeared in films such as Yaşam Kavgası, Yorgun Savaşçı, Metres and Kartallar Yüksek Uçar. In later years he was seen in the series Kurtlar Vadisi Pusu, Medcezir, İffet and Eşkıya Dünyaya Hükümdar Olmaz. The Crystal Gull award-winning artist died in Istanbul on 1 December 2023.
