Esra Dermancıoğlu — Biography

Esra Dermancıoğlu, born Esra Altınay on 7 December 1968 in Istanbul, is a granddaughter of the oud maker Zeynel Abidin Cümbüş. After Pierre Loti High School, she studied drama at Boston University and art history at Franklin College in Switzerland, then trained in acting with Şahika Tekand at Stüdyo Oyuncuları and took singing lessons from Derya Alabora. She stepped onto the screen through Gülse Birsel's offer of a guest role in Avrupa Yakası, and took a small part in the 2010 short film Moral Bozukluğu ve 31.

Her breakthrough came as Mukaddes Ketenci in Fatmagül'ün Suçu Ne? (2010-2011). She played roles in Doksanlar and Galip Derviş (2013), Dürdane in Kadın İşi: Banka Soygunu (2014), Zehra in Kırgın Çiçekler (2015) and Cennet Hatun in Muhteşem Yüzyıl: Kösem (2015); her performance in Hayalet Dayı (2015) won her Best Supporting Actress at the Sadri Alışık Awards. She went on to appear in Bir Zamanlar Çukurova (2019-2021), Kaderimin Oyunu (2021-2022), Bir Küçük Gün Işığı (2022-2023), Hudutsuz Sevda (2023-2024) and Siyah Kalp (2024-2025).
