Meryem Uzerli — Biography

German-Turkish actress Meryem Uzerli was born in Kassel as the youngest daughter of a Turkish father and a German mother, and later settled in Hamburg, where she trained in acting and theatre at the Schauspiel Studio Frese. She began her career in 2008 with small parts in German productions, and after an eight-month casting search was chosen in 2011 to play Hürrem Sultan in Muhteşem Yüzyıl, a role that brought her international recognition and best-actress honours from several organisations, as well as GQ Turkey's Woman of the Year title in 2012. She left the series in 2013, citing burnout, and went on to play Selin in Gecenin Kraliçesi and a guest character in Eşkıya Dünyaya Hükümdar Olmaz, while on the big screen she appeared in Annemin Yarası, Cingöz Recai, Öteki Taraf and Kovan, donating the proceeds of the latter to the AHBAP foundation. Also active as a model, she appeared in 2024 in the series Ru and Şakir Paşa Ailesi: Mucizeler ve Skandallar and the film Güzel Bir Rüya, and returned to headlines in 2026 opposite Halit Ergenç, her Muhteşem Yüzyıl co-star, fifteen years on, in İmroz'da Bahar.
