Sedef Avcı — Biography

Her paternal family originally from Erzincan, Sedef Avcı was born on 22 January 1982; sources give her birthplace as Istanbul, per the Turkish Wikipedia and Haberler.com, or Adana, per the English-language and several other Wikipedia editions. She began ballet at four and graduated from the Labour Economics Department of Kocaeli University.

She started out as a model, winning Elite Model Look Turkey in 1997 and representing her country at the Miss Universe pageant in Puerto Rico in 2001; she trained in acting with the Mahşeri Cümbüş company and under İpek Bilgin, and co-hosted the talent show Yetenek Avcısı with Sinem Kobal.

She reached the screen in 1997 with the series Böyle Mi Olacaktı, then made her real breakthrough playing Menekşe opposite Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ in Menekşe ile Halil in 2007; she went on to cement her fame as Selin in Yaprak Dökümü and Bahar in Ezel. On screen she also played Esra in both films of the Romantik Komedi series.

She later appeared in the series Bedel, Evlat Kokusu, Mehmed: Bir Cihan Fatihi, Payitaht: Abdülhamid, Elkızı and Çöp Adam, as well as the 2021 web series Hükümsüz, and returned to television in 2025 with Enfes Bir Akşam. She is married to Kıvanç Kasabalı and has a son, Can, born in 2013.
