Crazy Dumrul (Deli Dumrul) (translated)

Deli Dumrul is a 2017 Turkish comedy written and directed by Burak Aksak and drawn from the Book of Dede Korkut. Produced by BKM Film and running about 105 minutes, it was shot in Istanbul and released to cinemas on 1 September 2017; some sources list it under the fuller title Dede Korkut Hikâyeleri: Deli Dumrul.

At the centre of the story is Dumrul, a man whose heart burns with love. To reach the girl he wants, he takes on pirates at sea and, when it comes to it, squares up to the Angel of Death himself. The familiar motifs of the old folk tale are replayed here in a broadly comic register.

Şahin Irmak and Eda Ece take the leads, with Cengiz Bozkurt, Zafer Algöz, Necip Memili, Günay Karacaoğlu, Gülhan Tekin, Devrim Yakut and Salih Kalyon among the supporting cast. Several other Turkish films share this title, and this page covers only the one directed by Burak Aksak.
