Eylül (September) is a 2011 Turkish drama written and directed by Cemil Ağacıkoğlu, a fashion photographer making his feature debut after several short films; it opened nationwide in Turkey on September 30, 2011. The story follows Yusuf, whose life unravels after his wife Aslı is hospitalized with suspected lung cancer, leaving the couple increasingly isolated and estranged. At the hospital he meets Elena, an immigrant woman beaten by her husband, and a closeness develops between them, burdened by a deep sense of guilt.
Turgay Aydın, Görkem Yeltan and Elena Polyanskaya headline the cast, with Serkan Keskin and Ayten Uncuoğlu also appearing. The roughly 88-minute film screened in competition at the 35th Montreal World Film Festival and won Best Director and Best Actress at the 18th International Adana Golden Boll Film Festival.
