Kara Murat, Master of the Seas (Kara Murat Denizler Hakimi) (translated)

Kara Murat Denizler Hakimi is a 1977 Turkish historical adventure film and part of Yeşilçam's famous heroic franchise. Directed by Natuk Baytan and produced by Erler Film, it was co-written by Rahmi Turan, Fuat Özlüer, and Erdoğan Tünaş. Cüneyt Arkın stars as Kara Murat, joined by Peter Fabian, Sevda Karaca, Hüseyin Baradan, Kayhan Yıldızoğlu, and Turgut Özatay.

Set in the era of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, the story follows Admiral Yunus Pasha, whose ship carrying taxes and spoils to Istanbul is plundered by the Black Pirate, who is protected by Prince Nikolas of Chios. With pirates also raiding Turkish villages, the Sultan assigns Kara Murat to stop them. Posing as a criminal to get himself imprisoned, Kara Murat wins the trust of the pirates' captives and tracks them down; after a series of events involving the pirate woman Maria, he rescues Yunus Pasha and burns the enemy ships. Running 85 minutes, the film is a typical example of the era's historical action tradition.
