Be Kind Rewind (Lütfen Başa Sarın)
Written and directed by Michel Gondry, the 2008 buddy comedy Be Kind Rewind stars Jack Black, Mos Def (Yasiin Bey), Danny Glover, Mia Farrow, and Melonie Diaz. The story unfolds in a small neighborhood VHS rental shop owned by Elroy Fletcher, who leaves the store in the care of Mike while he travels. Mike's conspiracy-minded friend Jerry blames his headaches on a nearby power plant and tries to sabotage it; the mishap leaves him magnetized, and he accidentally erases every tape in the shop. Facing ruin, the pair decides to re-shoot the lost movies themselves with homemade props and costumes. Their scrappy versions of famous titles become an unexpected local sensation. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2008, screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, and opened theatrically in the United Kingdom and North America that February. The title refers to the polite reminder once printed on rental cassettes.
