Somersault in a Coffin (Tabutta Rövaşata)

Tabutta Rövaşata (Somersault in a Coffin) is a 1996 Turkish drama film written and directed by Derviş Zaim. The story centers on Mahsun, a homeless and unemployed man living around Rumeli Hisarı, who survives by stealing cars yet washes them and returns them after spending the night inside, embodying the urban poor of the era. His strongest support comes from his fisherman friends, especially Reis, played by Tuncel Kurtiz, while his unrequited affection for a drug-addicted woman becomes a turning point that shakes his world.

The film stands out for portraying the period's economic hardship through one man's daily struggle. Shot with extremely limited means and often described as a "no-budget" film, it was released on 15 November 1996 and won a total of 12 awards, four of them at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, including best film, best director, best editing and best actor.
