The Stranger (Yabancı) (translated)

Yabancı, internationally known as The Stranger, is a 2012 Turkish drama directed by Filiz Alpgezmen. Spoken partly in French and partly in Turkish, it was selected for the programme of the 18th London Turkish Film Festival.

The story follows a young woman raised in France whose father fled Türkiye in secret during the 1980 military coup era, branded a revolutionary. After his death, she travels to Istanbul to honour his final request: to be buried in his homeland. The journey forces her to confront a family history she never knew and to question where she truly belongs.

The cast features Caner Cindoruk, Selen Uçer, Sezin Akbaşoğulları, Özlem Tokaslan and Ülkü Duru.
