Yves Rénier — Biography
French-Swiss actor Yves Rénier was best known for playing the title role in the long-running police series Commissaire Moulin, one of French television's best-known detectives. The son of the playwright Max Régnier, he also worked as a director, screenwriter, presenter and dubbing artist. His career of more than fifty years ended with his death in 2021 at the age of 78.
He entered film in 1961 in Claude Autant-Lara's Le Comte de Monte-Cristo and went on to appear in films such as Méfiez-vous, mesdames!, The Most Beautiful Month and George Who?, though he did not have a real breakthrough in cinema. His breakthrough came on television: in 1965 he shared the billing with Juliette Gréco in Claude Barma's miniseries Belphégor, and in 1966 he scored a major success as the journalist Pierre Ribard in Les Globe-trotters. Commissaire Moulin, which began in 1976, made him known to a wide audience and ran into the 2000s. On the big screen he also appeared in Peppermint Soda (1977), Frantic (1988) and Les Anges gardiens (1995), and later he was seen in the series Dolmen and Marie Pervenche.
Known for his voice as well, Rénier dubbed American actors such as Burt Reynolds, Tommy Lee Jones, Paul Hogan and Chuck Norris into French. He also worked on the stage.
