Celile Toyon — Biography

Celile Toyon is a Turkish theatre, film and television actress, born on 3 October 1944 in Istanbul. After the Harbiye Private Art School, she trained at the Theatre Department of the Istanbul Conservatory. She began acting in amateur theatre in 1962 and went on to work with established companies such as AST, the Gülriz Sururi-Engin Cezzar Theatre, Arena Theatre, Dormen Theatre and Dostlar Theatre. Following the coup of 12 September 1980, she was dismissed from the Istanbul City Theatre under the '1402' decrees.

She made her cinema debut in 1977 with İbo ile Güllüşah and first appeared on television in the series Üç İstanbul (1983). After the films Çınar Ağacı (2011) and Fakat Müzeyyen Bu Derin Bir Tutku (2014) and the series Kalbim Ege'de Kaldı (2015), she reached a wide audience as Hasibe in Vatanım Sensin (2016). With her long stage and screen career, she is regarded as one of the veteran figures of Turkish theatre.
