Serhat Özcan — Biography

Born Serhat Süha Özcan, he comes from a family originally from Boyabat and is one of four children of a non-commissioned officer; he was born on 8 August 1961 in the Durağan district of Sinop and is the elder brother of actor Reha Özcan. He graduated from Gemlik High School in 1979, played football for a time with Altay and Karagümrük, and worked jobs such as assistant and waiter before starting in theatre in 1978 at the courses of the Balıkesir Public Education Center; he went on to perform with the Y.K. Bank Children's Theatre, Dostlar Tiyatrosu, Ferhan Şensoy's Nöbetçi Tiyatro and the Beşiktaş Cultural Center, and was drafted for military service in 1984 while studying at the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory.

He made his film debut in 1986 with Davacı and his television debut in 1993 with Süper Baba, but became widely known for the role of Tirbüşon in Bir Demet Tiyatro. He appeared in productions such as Vizontele, Cennet Mahallesi, Suskunlar, Öyle Bir Geçer Zaman ki, Karadayı, Ulan İstanbul and Bizum Hoca, played İbrahim in Çoban Yıldızı and Uluç in Çukur in 2017, and more recently has appeared in Korkma Ben Yanındayım (2024), 10 Bin Adım (2025) and Ben Onun Annesiyim (2025).

He married Deniz İpek in Ayvalık in June 2022. He had been part of the RED movement, founded in 2006, and when it merged into the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) in April 2021, he became the party's top parliamentary candidate for Balıkesir in the 2023 general election.
