Civan Canova — Biography

Ahmet Civan Canova (June 28, 1955, Ankara - August 20, 2022, Istanbul) was a Turkish theatre, film, and television actor, playwright, screenwriter, and theatre director. He trained at the Theatre Department of the Ankara State Conservatory; from 1979 he acted in numerous plays as a State Theatres artist, and from the 1990s he won awards for the plays he wrote.

On television he was loved as Celal in Çiçek Taksi (1995); his standout series included Fatmagül'ün Suçu Ne? (2010), Karadayı (2012), Paramparça (2014, as Rahmi), Atiye (2019, as Mustafa), and Üç Kuruş (2021, as Oktay). In cinema he won the Golden Orange Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as a torturing police commissioner in Eve Dönüş (2006); 72. Koğuş (2011) and F Tipi Film (2012) are among his other major films. Named Most Successful Male Actor of the Year at the 2011 Afife Theatre Awards for his performance in the play Ölüleri Gömün, the master artist died in Istanbul on August 20, 2022, at the age of 67, after battling a lung condition for some time.
