Erkan Can — Biography

Erkan Can (born 1 November 1958 in Bursa) is a Turkish theatre, film and television actor and producer. He began his stage career in 1975 at the Bursa State Theatre, entered the theatre department of the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory in 1985, graduated in 1990, and then joined the Bakırköy Municipal Theatre.

He became widely known through his portrayal of Temel in the 1992 television series Mahallenin Muhtarları, a role he himself describes as the turning point of his career. His cinema breakthrough came with the 1998 film Gemide, in which his performance as the Captain earned him the Best Actor award at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. His role as Muharrem in Takva (2006) brought him a second Golden Orange as well as the Asia Pacific Screen Award for Best Performance by an Actor.

His many screen credits include Dar Alanda Kısa Paslaşmalar (2000), Yazı Tura, Anlat İstanbul (2005), Yaşamın Kıyısında (2007), Kara Köpekler Havlarken (2009), Çoğunluk (2010) and Müslüm (2018). On television he is remembered as Tayyar Dündar in Kara Para Aşk and Osman Necipli in Tövbeler Olsun.
