Black and White (Siyah Beyaz)

Black and White (Siyah Beyaz) is a 2010 Turkish drama film written and directed by Ahmet Boyacıoğlu in his feature debut. Named after the Siyah Beyaz bar in Ankara, a landmark of art and intellectual life for more than two decades, the film weaves together the stories of the regulars who gather there every evening.

Among them are a painter in his seventies still leading a restless life (Tuncel Kurtiz), a lawyer who quit his job after a heart attack in search of calm (Erkan Can), a doctor fed up with his profession and abandoned by his wife (Nejat İşler), a businesswoman who has embraced solitude (Şevval Sam), and Faruk (Taner Birsel), the bar's grumpy yet kind-hearted owner. Boyacıoğlu has described the film as being about loneliness, growing old, friendship, solidarity and the special bond one feels for Ankara. Produced by Akman Film, it opened in Turkey on April 23, 2010, and screened at the 47th Antalya Golden Orange and the 59th Mannheim-Heidelberg film festivals.
