Işıl Yücesoy — Biography

Işıl Yücesoy was born on 2 October 1945 in Kırklareli; she learned piano from her father, a music teacher, and studied acting at the Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory before joining the State Theatres in 1969. In 1975 she left the stage for a singing career, performing in nightclubs and cabarets on the strength of her single Çalamazsın Mutluluğu, and released the album Bir Evet Yeter in 1979 through her own label, Orient Plak, founded in 1978.

From 1981 she turned to film and television; her first series was Atilla İlhan's Sekiz Sütuna Manşet, and through the 1980s she wrote and performed radio plays for TRT's Arkası Yarın while teaching drama at Eyüboğlu College for sixteen years. She gained wide recognition through series such as Üvey Baba, Çemberimde Gül Oya and Kara Para Aşk, won Best Actress at the SİYAD and Altın Koza awards for Korkuyorum Anne, and played Hanife in Çağan Irmak's film Unutursam Fısılda.

In 2016 she returned to music with the album Zamansız, thirty-five years after her last, and spent time living in New York near her daughter. She has a daughter, Meneviş, from her marriage to journalist Tanju Cılızoğlu, has since become a grandmother, and continued her television career in series such as Aşk ve Mavi and Hayat Mucizelere Gebe.
