Mehmet Günsür — Biography

Mehmet Günsür was born on 8 May 1975 in Istanbul, the second child of a family of Tatar descent; his mother, Sibel, was a lecturer, his father, Teoman, an industrial engineer, and his sister, Zeynep Günsür Yüceil, is an academic at Kadir Has University. He began acting at seven in television commercials, and at fourteen appeared in the series Geçmiş Bahar Mimozaları and Cahide alongside veteran actors Rutkay Aziz, Filiz Akın and Müşfik Kenter. After the Italian High School he graduated with honors from Marmara University's Faculty of Communication, during which time he performed with a music band and ran a restaurant for four years.

Through a friend's introduction he auditioned for and won a role in Ferzan Özpetek's Hamam (1997), which brought him wide recognition and the most promising actor award at the Ankara Film Festival; he decided afterward to commit fully to acting, and went on to win further festival awards for films such as O Şimdi Asker and Ses. He reached a broad audience as Şehzade Mustafa in Muhteşem Yüzyıl, played Deniz in the series Fi, and took a lead role in the 2023 Atatürk 1881-1919 films.

Married since 2006 to Italian documentary filmmaker Caterina Mongio, with whom he has three children, Günsür returned in 2026 to share the lead with Devrim Özkan in the third film of the Aşk Tesadüfleri Sever franchise.
