Emperor (İmparator) (translated)

Directed by Melih Gülgen and written by Erdoğan Tünaş, the 1984 Turkish film İmparator follows businessman Kadir, who wins every tender he enters, prompting his rivals Tarık and Rasim to set an ambush to kill him. Kadir survives the attack, falls in love with Nevin, the nurse who cares for him during his long hospital stay, and marries her after his discharge — yet his rivals refuse to leave him alone.

Produced by Sezer Film in color on 35 mm, the picture runs 85 minutes. Kadir İnanır stars as Mardinli Kadir opposite Seda Sayan as Nevin, with supporting turns by Erol Taş, Kadir Savun and Yüksel Gözen. The film belongs to the mafia and revenge narratives common in Yeşilçam cinema of its period.
