King of Doormen (Kapıcılar Kralı) (translated)

King of the Doormen is a 1976 Turkish comedy film directed by Zeki Ökten and written by Umur Bugay, produced by Çiçek Film. It marked the third collaboration between Ökten and lead actor Kemal Sunal after Hanzo and Şaşkın Damat, with Sevda Ferdağ, Bilge Zobu, Şevket Altuğ and Sevil Üstekin also in the cast.

Set in Istanbul during the years of accelerating migration from Anatolia, the story follows Seyit, who arrives in the city with his family hoping for a better life and works as the doorman of a large apartment building while his wife cleans houses. Though he appears to be an ordinary man, Seyit knows everything that goes on in the building and survives through clever moves. The building serves as a mirror held up to the Turkey of its era, reflecting the country's social and economic struggles. The film won Best Director and Best Actor at the 14th Golden Orange Film Festival, making Sunal the first actor to win that award for a comedy performance.
