The Imam (The İmam) (translated)

Movie · 2005 · 2 people

The Imam is a 2005 Turkish drama film directed by İsmail Güneş from a screenplay by Ömer Lütfi Mete, with Eşref Ziya Terzi in the leading role.

The story follows Emre, a young man who graduated from an Imam-Hatip religious vocational high school but conceals this part of his past from everyone around him. He went on to study computer engineering, embraced a Western lifestyle, and even changed his name; with his long hair and motorcycle, he gives no outward impression of being religious. Yet the religious education he received at an early age has become an inseparable part of his character, leaving him caught in contradictions he cannot admit even to himself, along with restlessness and inner turmoil.

The film portrays a man torn between two worlds: one in which he builds a modern life by hiding his identity, and another shaped by the values he grew up with but can never fully leave behind.
