Turgay Kantürk — Biography

Born on June 19, 1961, in İstanbul, Turgay Kantürk is a versatile artist who trained at the Theatre Department of the Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory; besides acting, he is known for poetry, painting and theatre direction.

He began his television acting career in 2011 with the series Kuzey Güney, later appearing in the film Benim Dünyam and the series Tatar Ramazan, Serçe Sarayı, Hatırla Gönül and Kalbim Yangın Yeri; he became best known for playing Avni in Eşkıya Dünyaya Hükümdar Olmaz, alongside leads Deniz Çakır and Oktay Kaynarca.

Kantürk also has a strong literary background: his debut poetry collection, İlk Gibi Son, published in 1991, won him the Necatigil Poetry Award, and in 2019 he was appointed General Artistic Director of the Bakırköy Municipality Theatres.
