Adile Naşit — Biography

Adile Naşit was born on 17 June 1930 in Istanbul and died there on 11 December 1987. Her birth name was Adile Özcan, and she was the daughter of a well-known comedian and a mother who also worked in theatre. After her father's death she left school at fourteen to join the children's section run by the Istanbul City Theatres, and in later years performed with the Muammer Karaca company as well as troupes she helped establish herself. She stepped into cinema with a 1947 film but reached wide recognition only in the 1970s. She is remembered for playing Hafize Ana across the Hababam Sınıfı film series and for a long screen partnership with Münir Özkul in dozens of productions, appearing in films such as Tosun Paşa, Süt Kardeşler, Neşeli Günler, Kibar Feyzo and Şabaniye. Her performance in İşte Hayat brought her the best actress prize at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. Known for her distinctive laugh, she also worked as a storyteller on the children's programme Uykudan Önce.
