The Man Without a Tomorrow (Yarınsız Adam) (translated)

Yarınsız Adam (The Man Without a Tomorrow) is a 1976 Turkish political drama directed by Remzi Jöntürk and the first entry in his trilogy, followed by Satılmış Adam and Yıkılmayan Adam in 1977. The film follows Murat (Cüneyt Arkın), a man raised in poverty who lives on the streets with his friend Kemal and Zeliş, the girl he loves. One day, driven by hunger, Murat and Kemal commit a theft; while helping his friend escape the police, Murat is caught and sent to prison, where another offense extends his sentence even further. After his release, he turns to unlawful means in order to help street children who share his fate. By showing events through the eyes of a man criminalized by circumstance, the film exposes the gulf between rich and poor in Turkey and delivers a sharp critique of an unequal system, consistent with the socialist message found in Jöntürk's other political works of the period.
