İrem Altuğ — Biography

İrem Altuğ is a Turkish film and television actress best known for playing Ayşe Koçovalı in Çukur and Sultan in Yalı Çapkını. Born on 15 September 1980 in Istanbul, she began appearing on screen at seven in television commercials and won first place in her age group in a 1988 ad-star contest, going on to appear in nearly forty commercials as a child. She left the Theatre Department at Mimar Sinan University to study acting at San Francisco State University, spending five years in the United States and taking roles in numerous independent productions. She made her film debut in Halit Refiğ's Karılar Koğuşu, and after returning to Turkey appeared in the films Eve Giden Yol 1914, Kirpi and Melekler ve Kumarbazlar, and the series Şeytan Ayrıntıda Gizlidir, Ihlamurlar Altında, Vazgeç Gönlüm, Kayıp Aranıyor and Aşk Ekmek Hayaller. Her performance as Deniz in Nar (2011) earned her a best actress nomination. Following the hit series Çukur, which she joined in 2017, she appeared in Kalp Yarası and Yalı Çapkını, and joined Bir Gece Masalı from 2024. Alongside acting, she has written and produced an award-winning short film and published a novel in 2021.
