Shadow (Gölge) (translated)
Gölge (Shadow) is a 2008 Turkish drama and the feature debut of Mehmet Güreli, already known as a musician and painter. Written by Nilgün Öneş, the film adapts Peyami Safa's novel Selma ve Gölgesi, which deals with suicide, suspicion, jealousy, friendship and love; Güreli also composed the score. The story unfolds around a chain of mysterious suicides, following a secretive woman's hidden schemes and two close friends who gradually turn into each other's destroyers.
Görkem Yeltan plays Selma and Memet Ali Alabora plays Şefik, alongside Kaan Çakır, Serkan Ercan, Alper Kul and Ünal Silver. Alabora, until then known mostly for comedy, said this was his first test in a thriller. Shot in Istanbul and Venice, the film premiered on 15 April 2008 at the 27th International Istanbul Film Festival and opened theatrically on 20 March 2009. At the 15th Altın Koza Film Festival it won Best Supporting Actor for Serkan Ercan and Best Art Director for Selda Çiçek.
