The Wing or the Thigh

Directed by Claude Zidi, the 1976 French comedy L'Aile ou la Cuisse stars Louis de Funès and Coluche. It follows Charles Duchemin, head of the gastronomic guide bearing his name and a champion of traditional French cuisine, and his son Gérard, who is more drawn to the life of an artist, as they wage a crusade against industrial food embodied by Jacques Tricatel and his roadside restaurants. Satirizing the Michelin guide and industrialist Jacques Borel, the film tackles the rise of junk food in 1970s France.

The film marked Louis de Funès's return to the screen after three years away due to serious health problems, a comeback made possible by young producer Christian Fechner. Released in October 1976, it drew some 5.8 million admissions in France, finishing second at the year's box office behind Jaws, and is regarded as one of the classics of French comedy cinema.
