Ömer the Tourist in Star Trek (Turist Ömer Uzay Yolunda)

Movie · 1973 · 1 people

Produced and directed by Hulki Saner from a screenplay by Ferdi Merter, the 1973 Turkish film Turist Ömer Uzay Yolunda is the final entry in the Tourist Ömer series starring Sadri Alışık. Made by Saner Film, it adapts the 1966 Star Trek episode The Man Trap, making it the first feature-length adaptation of that universe, and it has since achieved cult status in Turkey. It is counted among the best-known works of the Turksploitation wave of low-budget Turkish remakes and unauthorized adaptations of foreign productions.

In the story, the starship Enterprise under Captain Kirk is sent to the planet Orin 7 to collect reports from Professor Krater, who lives there alone with his wife. When Mr. Spak and a landing party beam down, a crewman dies mysteriously; the culprit is Nancy, a shapeshifting creature that needs salt to survive. To deflect suspicion, the professor uses a time machine to pull someone from the past, and Tourist Ömer — snatched from Istanbul just as he is about to be forcibly married — finds himself aboard the ship, where his naive, wisecracking manner drives the crew, especially Spak, to distraction.
