Aşk ve Taht is a period drama made by Bozdağ Film, with the project designed by Mehmet Bozdağ. Its first episode aired on atv on Wednesday 9 September 2026 at 8 pm. Durul Taylan is credited as creator and one of the directors, and Yağmur Taylan's name also appears among the directors. Akın Akınözü plays Alaaddin, Simay Barlas plays Melike Hüma, Merjem Siljak plays Destina, Halil İbrahim Ceyhan plays Andreas, Alican Albayrak plays Kreon and Ayça Bingöl plays Ümmühan Hatun; Murat Serezli (Efendi Vard), Cem Bender, Ferit Kaya and İdil Yener are also in the cast. Filming is centred on the Bozdağ Film studios in Beykoz, Istanbul, with locations in Konya and Alanya used for exterior scenes. After five episodes had been shot, it was decided not to film more, and the series ended with its fifth episode on 7 October 2026.

The story is inspired by the life of the Anatolian Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I. It follows Alaaddin from eight years of captivity to the throne, in events set in the Seljuk palace, among members of the dynasty and around Kalonoros Castle, where a major love story and a struggle for power run together. The series deals with the years in which the Anatolian Seljuk state was at its strongest politically, militarily and culturally.

History & Society Lens Asks about the period, the social background and what the work reflects.

The series is inspired by the life of the Anatolian Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I and takes in the years when the state was at its strongest politically, militarily and culturally. A road from eight years of captivity to the throne, struggles inside the palace and dynastic relations are rich material for understanding the period. But the production is presented as inspired by, not as a documentary: the love story and the events around a castle may not match real history one to one. Only five episodes were broadcast, which is too little for deep treatment of the era and so limits any assessment.

Cinephile Looks at script, editing and directing choices; keeps a distance from formula films.

The real test of a period series is holding palace intrigue and romance on the same line of tension, and weaving love and the struggle for power together around Kalonoros Castle is an ambitious idea for that. The studio in Beykoz and the exteriors in Konya and Alanya lay a smart base for mixing a period look with real locations. But two directors are credited, and unity of style can only be tested over a long run; with five episodes it is hard to say whether it was established. The ambition is clear, but the piece we have does not allow a verdict on the result.

Series Binger A series devotee tracking character arcs, cast chemistry and season pacing.

This series is a case cut off before its character arcs had a chance to show. In five episodes, Alaaddin's road from captivity to the throne and the place of female characters such as Melike Hüma and Destina in the story can only be sketched; there is no material to say where anyone ends up. For the viewer the real loss is never seeing the turning points a series should have in its middle. About a production that did not complete even a single season, it is not possible to talk about cast chemistry or mid-season pacing; one can only speculate about the groundwork laid at the start.
