Toll Booth (Gişe Memuru)

Movie · 2010 · 7 people

Toll Booth (Gişe Memuru) is a 2010 Turkish drama film written and directed by Tolga Karaçelik and produced by BKM Film. Shot just before the manual toll booths on the Bosphorus Bridge were switched to an automated system, it draws on the monotonous routines of the attendants who worked there, and was released in cinemas in May 2011.

The story follows Kenan, a withdrawn attendant at the Çatalca tolls who lives with his ailing father and retreats into his imagination rather than connecting with people. His father, who has a heart condition, is looked after during the day by Nurgül, a talkative, maternal woman who has known the family for years. Kenan's unchanging life shifts the day a new operations chief arrives to inspect the Çatalca booths. Serkan Ercan stars alongside Nergis Öztürk, Nur Fettahoğlu and Sermet Yeşil. The film won Best First Film, Best Cinematography and Best Actor at the 47th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival.
