My Aunt Came (Halam Geldi) (translated)

Halam Geldi (My Aunt Came) is a Turkish drama film directed by Erhan Kozan and produced by 5. Boyut Stüdyoları. Based on a screenplay that journalist Evrim Kanpolat adapted from a true story, the film premiered at a special screening during the 50th International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival and opened in cinemas on 3 January 2014. Sami Dündar and Atıf Ulusoy served as producers, with music by Ercüment Vural.

The story unfolds in Akıncılar, a border village in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus where church bells mingle with the call to prayer and families from Diyarbakır live alongside Turkish Cypriots. Told through the eyes of children barely thirteen years old, the film confronts the reality of child brides, the lives of disabled children born of consanguineous marriages, and the human side of the division between northern and southern Cyprus. Alongside Burçin Terzioğlu, Miray Akay and Melis Kara, the cast includes performers such as Turgay Tanülkü and Necip Memili as well as Turkish Cypriot actors, and the production was also conceived as a social responsibility project.
