The Wound (Yara) (translated)
Yara (The Wound) is a 1998 internationally co-produced drama film written, directed and produced by Yılmaz Arslan. Realized by Sil Vega Film and Gün İzi Film Prodüksiyon, it went on nationwide general release across Turkey on 4 February 2000.
The film follows Hülya, the daughter of a Turkish worker in Germany, who struggles with alienation, depression and her family's neglect in her new life; forcibly sent back to Turkey by her own family, she fights for healing and liberation, in a story built around themes of migration and belonging. Yelda Reynaud leads the cast alongside Nur Sürer, Halil Ergün and Necmettin Çobanoğlu, while the original score is by oud artist Rabih Abou-Khalil. The film won awards at festivals in Antalya and Istanbul, including the Golden Orange for Best Film.
