My father (Babam) (translated)

Babam is a 2017 Turkish drama film directed by Nihat Durak, who co-wrote the screenplay with Nail Pelivan. Produced by Fono Film and Durak Film, shooting began in late July 2017 in Gelibolu, Çanakkale, and lasted about six weeks. The project was first announced under the title "Sardalya Kokusu" (The Scent of Sardines); the name was changed to Babam in the final week of filming, and the film premiered on October 6, 2017.

The story follows Yusuf Tunalı, who struggles to save his sardine canning factory from bankruptcy. When his wife dies, he is left alone with his mentally disabled son Arif, whom he has never been able to accept — a situation that becomes a profound test for him. The arrival of Feride, a young teacher awaiting assignment who takes a job at the factory, gradually builds a bridge between father and son. The film stars Çetin Tekindor, Berker Güven and Melisa Şenolsun.
