Blue Butterflies (Mavi Kelebekler)

Blue Butterflies is a 2011 Turkish television drama produced by Sinevizyon. Set during the Bosnian War, which erupted in 1992, the series portrays the suffering and the struggle for survival endured by the Bosniak people through the conflict. Broadcast on TRT 1, first on Wednesday evenings and later on Thursdays, it ran for 26 episodes before reaching its finale.

The blue butterflies that lend the series its title are a species feeding on flowers that bloom over graves, and within the story they come to stand as an emblem of the war and the grief of the Bosniak community. Each episode opens with an on-screen dedication honouring the memory of those who perished in the genocide committed before the eyes of the world. The ensemble cast includes İpek Tenolcay, Gamze Topuz, Nurettin Sönmez, Sarp Akkaya, Yiğit Kirazcı, Murat Kocacık and Alper Saldıran.
