The Serpent's Tale (Karanlık Sular)

The Serpent's Tale (Turkish: Karanlık Sular) is a mystery film written, directed and produced by Kutluğ Ataman. Shooting began in Istanbul in the summer of 1990 and was completed in the USA two years later; the film premiered at the Sarajevo Film Festival in 1993 and opened in Turkish cinemas on 25 August 1995.

The film stood out for blending the horror-thriller genre with a mysterious, dark Istanbul story, as well as for its Western-standard technical quality. Featuring music by Blake Leyh and cinematography by Christopher Squires, the 97-minute film stars Gönen Bozbey, Metin Uygun, Daniel Chace and Semiha Berksoy, who appears in multiple roles. It was named best film at Mystfest in 1994 and received SİYAD awards for Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay.
