Murtaza

Murtaza is a 1965 Turkish drama film adapted from Orhan Kemal's novel of the same name, said to be the first Yeşilçam screen adaptation of the book. It was directed by Tunç Başaran, written by Recep Ekicigil, and produced by Eşref Ekicigil and Recep Ekicigil.

The film centers on Murtaza (Müşfik Kenter), a neighborhood night watchman whose obsessive devotion to duty borders on fanaticism. After enforcing rigid order in his own neighborhood, he becomes a control supervisor at a textile factory, where his strict discipline turns his co-workers against him. Living in a poor squatter house with his wife Zümrüt (Ayfer Feray) and their children, Murtaza is ultimately confronted with a tragedy involving one of his daughters.
