Farewell (Veda) (translated)

TV Series · 2012 · 12 people

Veda is a 2012 Turkish historical romance drama series that aired on Kanal D, adapted from a work by Ayşe Kulin. Set in Istanbul in the 1920s, during the occupation years following World War I, it follows Mehmet Reşat Bey, an honest Finance Minister and Ottoman intellectual torn between loyalty to his Sultan and resistance to the occupying powers. The household's order collapses when his nephew Kemal, who fought at Sarıkamış, was taken prisoner and now faces arrest warrants, returns home gravely ill and must be hidden. Kemal is nursed by Mehpare, a poor relative raised in the mansion, and the two fall in love — a bond blocked by class difference, his fugitive status and the opposition of his grandmother. Meanwhile Mehmet Reşat encounters Eirene, a neighbor's daughter he once knew, forcing his pregnant wife Behice to fight to hold her family together. Directed by Merve Girgin Aytekin, the series stars Mehmet Aslantuğ, Fahriye Evcen, Burak Yamantürk and Jale Arıkan. Due to low ratings it was cancelled after its eighth episode.
