Nasır Melek — Biography

Nasır Melek, born Naser Malek Motiei on 11 April 1930 in Tehran, was an Iranian film actor and director. He became one of the country's most recognizable screen performers before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, headlining popular commercial productions often labeled "filmfarsi." His portrayal in Masoud Kimiai's 1969 film Gheysar brought him wide recognition, and he also worked with directors such as Ali Hatami. After the revolution, changes in the film industry and stricter censorship pushed him away from acting, and he supported himself through other work, including running a pastry shop and real-estate consulting. Over his career he appeared in dozens of films spanning the 1950s through the early 1980s. He died in Tehran on 25 May 2018; his funeral drew large crowds of mourners, and he was buried in the artists section of Behesht-e Zahra cemetery, near the grave of Mohammad Ali Fardin.
